Expired Accreditation, Late Renewal & Reinstatement

A clear status path for organizations that renew on time, file late, miss expiration, or need to return after a lapse.

Core rule: accreditation does not silently extend past its expiration date. A timely renewal can remain active while CHSPS completes review; a late fee covers extra work but never purchases extra accredited time.

Four renewal situations

Timely

Complete renewal at least 90 days before expiration

If review is still underway when the current term ends, CHSPS may show Accredited — Renewal Review Pending. The organization remains accredited through the decision, subject to continuing compliance and responsiveness.

Extra fee: none.

Late but not expired

Complete renewal 89–0 days before expiration

CHSPS can accept the filing with an expedited-processing fee. A decision before expiration is not guaranteed; any temporary continuation must be issued in writing and is never automatic.

Extra fee: 15% of the applicable renewal review fee, minimum $150.

Expired 1–90 days

Reinstatement review

The public status remains Expired during review. Current mark use stops. CHSPS may reuse still-current evidence, but a new decision is required and the new effective date is not backdated.

Fee: applicable renewal review fee + $500 reinstatement processing.

Expired more than 90 days

Return through initial accreditation

The organization applies under the current initial pathway and fees. The historical accreditation record remains linked for transparency; usable prior evidence can still reduce re-entry burden.

Annual-report and fee lateness is different

An accreditation can be within its term yet fall behind on an annual report or annual fee. ACC-109 provides a 30-day cure period. After that cure period, the Fee Schedule applies a $150 late-maintenance fee; unresolved obligations beyond 60 days may lead to suspension. After correction, a $250 administrative reinstatement fee may apply. This is an administrative maintenance issue, not expiration of the underlying term.

Need flexibility because of an extraordinary event? Request it before expiration when possible. CHSPS may approve a documented extension of up to 90 days for circumstances outside the organization’s reasonable control. Extensions and fee waivers are written, time-limited and applied under impartiality controls.
